I've been smoke free for
I've been smoke free for almost 7 weeks now and this past weekend I slipped and had two on Sunday, two yesterday and as well two more this morning. I am so disapointed in myself and feel like an utter failure. Has my slipping caused me to go back on all of the benefits I've given myself for stopping the 7 weeks? Or am I still okay and just need to get back on track and keep steaming ahead? I'm just so worried all of my hard work is down the drains now and now my lungs and so forth are ruined from my dumb mistake.
Courtney, you are just
Courtney, you are just getting started on your road to freedom. Don't let a little bump cause you to turn back. Sure, you inhaled a bunch of toxins and that isn't exactly a good thing, but it's a heck of alot better than never trying to quit in the first place.
It took me three tries to quit, and even then I smoked socially for a year or two afterward. I set up rules, like no smoking in the car, no buying a pack, and held fast to those rules. That helped me stay on course.
One of the most important things is mindset. You are a non-smoker, period, no matter what. That includes slipping and smoking. Keep in mind exchanging habits helps with the transition. Most importantly, call your doctor and discuss what slipping and smoking means for your health outlook, especially if you are taking certain prescription medications.
