Quit smoking electronic cigarette?

Hi Christine. Are these

Hi Christine. Are these electronic cigs for real? Will they help?

Electronic cigarettes or

Electronic cigarettes or E-cigarettes are small battery operated devices that light up when you take a drag and even “smoke” with a smokeless vapor. They have cartridges with nicotine and other chemicals in them so you get a similar effect as if you were smoking.

One problem with these devices is that they contain chemicals that are not in cigarettes. In July of 2009 the FDA released information about a study they had done on the devices. They found the cartridges contained, among other chemicals, diethylene glycol. This chemical may appear in skin creams and deodorants, but it can be poisonous to humans if ingested.

Another problem is that the amount of nicotine in these devices is not yet well regulated. That means they could make you more addicted to nicotine than you already are. E-cigarettes might be perfect for someone who doesn’t want to quit, but is looking for something they are allowed to “smoke” indoors. If you really want to quit, talk to your doctor. With their advice make a multi-faceted plan attacking the social, emotional and physical reasons you smoke.
