The National Institutes of Health states that nicotine withdrawal symptoms can include things like headache, depression, anxiety, nervousness, sleep disturbance and weight gain. These are generally temporary only if you get the nicotine out of your system. If you keep reintroducing the nicotine and only smoke occasionally, you’ll likely be in a constant state of withdrawal.
If you are smoking as a social activity, you might try another healthy habit instead. For instance, you could join a biking club, attend an aerobics class or even get together with a group of people from the office and go for a walk after lunch. You could also try taking a painting class, joining a book club or forming a band. Whatever your interests are, make that the focus, and the thought of picking up a smoke may be a distant memory.
