The American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society discusses quite a few health benefits; lower risk of cancer tops the list. If you stop smoking now you can expect your risk of lung cancer to be about half of what it was when you still smoked. Other benefits include lowering the risks of other types of cancer, including bladder, mouth throat and esophageal cancer.
The ACS also says you can expect increased circulation, a drop in blood pressure, a decrease in coughing and shortness of breath, an increase in proper lung function, and a decreased risk of coronary heart disease and stroke. This list is certainly not exhaustive. We simply don’t know of all the health risks associated with smoking so it’s impossible to know all the benefits of quitting.
Crystal, ReadyToQuit's resident Q&A expert, is an ex-smoker of over 17 years.
