Nicotine in chewing tobacco

Hi Christine. Do you know if

Hi Christine. Do you know if there is a lot more nicotine in chewing tobacco vs cigarettes? I have been trying to quit but I wonder if it is more difficult than quitting cigarettes.

Thanks.

Thanks for your question

Thanks for your question nelson. According to the American Cancer Society, a dip of snuff doles out an average of 3.6 milligrams of nicotine and a chew delivers a whopping 4.5 milligrams of nicotine on average. Compare this to a single cigarette’s 1 milligram nicotine and you may think quitting chewing tobacco will be an uphill battle. But putting down smokes and chew are equally difficult, it depends on how long you’ve done it and how much you’ve used and how committed you are to quitting. Don’t stop trying just because it’s difficult. If you develop a plan that addresses the physical, emotional and social reasons you chew, you’ll likely find you’re able to put the habit away for good.
