After You Quit
What’s Your Passion?
If we are truthful with ourselves, we have a deep burning desire for one thing or another. For some it’s music, art or theatre. For others it’s sports, business or philanthropy. For still others it’s children, home and family. For you it may be a combination of these things. While what or who put that passion inside us is under some debate, what is not arguable is that smoking gets in the way of living out those passions. The grip of nicotine robs you of your clear voice, steady hand, gleaming smile and disposable income.
While on the surface this may seem little to lose, in the long run smoking could cost you over $100,000 over your lifetime. This does not include the increased medical and hospital expenses that could top a half million dollars. Smoking also may steal the more important intangibles, like inspiration, motivation and drive, all of which are the very things required to live in out our passions.
To quit, something needs to be more important than smoking. Take your passion, somewhere hidden deep in the past, before you ever picked up a cigarette, dust it off and place it ahead of smoking on the priority list. Whether it’s your kids, your parents, your business, your art or your sport, tell the smokes, “Sorry, but my _______ is more important than you,” and fill in the blank with your passion. If you do this every day, you could be well on your way to quitting for good.
