No Matter What

When attempting to quit for the first time, most of us say we, “really need to quit,” or we’re, “trying to quit.” We may be strongly socially tied to others who smoke and don’t want to break that bond, or we may like the way cigarettes make us feel and not yet see the negative effects.

When we get further down the road of desperation, when we notice the ill health and lost money, we say things like, “I have to quit,” or, “I’m going to quit.” Here we start to see the lack of oxygen when we try to run up a flight of stairs, the yellow stains on our teeth and the ease with which we now get sick.

What we need to get to is a position of determination, a point when we say, “I’ve had enough, I’m not going to let cigarettes take one more day of my life.” When we get to this point, we are ready to make a change. The sooner we get to this point, the better, especially since every single puff is literally stealing our life away.

In order for determination to lead to success, it needs to be teamed with a plan of attack and a, “no matter what,” attitude. Even if you slip and smoke again, keeping this attitude will help you overcome the obstacles you will face during the quitting journey.
