Parent, Rules and Smoking

Parents, you may think that you have no control of the smoking situation with your teen, but you do. You can set rules about your house that can at least help to keep them from smoking while in your presence. The less that they are actually “able” to smoke may make them feel like it is just not worth the effort of trying to figure out other ways and places to smoke. Let your teen know that your house is a smoke-free zone and it is not allowed in or around your house at all. If you are the mother of a teen as well as a younger child, it is increasingly important to let your teenager know that smoking is not allowed in the home. Give them reasons why, like the fact that secondhand smoke causes a number of problems (including cancer) to those around them and could even be risking their life.
